Major project
AFRMG is proud to support RMG’s First Light project, a comprehensive renovation of the Royal Observatory Greenwich scheduled to complete in spring 2028. Recently, the project received a $13.4 million grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund a fantastic kick-start to this once-in-a-generation undertaking.
American Friends are playing a key role in fundraising for this effort to ensure the Observatory’s historic buildings are restored and new state-of-the-art galleries and telescopes inspire future explorers.

Upcoming events
AFRMG and RMG host various events to engage our American Friends community. Whether exclusive Patron events or public programs in the U.S., we invite you to join us.
In late October AFRMG welcomed a team from Royal Museums Greenwich to New York and Los Angeles to mark the 350th anniversary of the Royal Observatory Greenwich. Highlights of the visit included a talk with Director Paddy Rodgers and Longitude author Dava Sobel at the Explorers Club in NY (watch the recording here) and a lecture by Paddy at the Griffith Observatory, LA (watch the recording here). In addition, a reception was held at the British Consul’s Residence in LA. Thanks go to all those who were involved in making these events happen.
